It is official, earlier today I received my Lifetouch "1year Employment" pin today. I am very excited and I have worked very this past year to earn this. What made this even more special today for me was that my manager Kim Bagarell presented it and pinned it on me. Kim hired me one year ago today, and I am very blessed to be working for Lifetouch. I believe that everything is starting to fall into place in my life.

For the past week I have been searching for the really cool Instagram app for the Android cell phones and so far I couldn't find a programing because its only made for the iPhone. Yesterday I received a photo message from JJ, my VB Lifetouch office manager. I found out that one of my scholarship photos (my colorful crayon photos) that I submit for a Lifetouch contest is being recognized in Minneapolis, Minnesota were a nation wide conference for Lifetouch is being held.

Unfortunately I did not win, but I feel that even being recognized out of so many entries is a great and rewarding accomplishment. I was amazed that one of my photos is being showed in a gallery all the way out in the midwest.

I stitched together and did my final editing on this pano photograph using Photoshop CS5. I added the blue sky in this photo to give this school a little more of a stunning look. After adding the blue sky from a previous pano I did before in the past, I used one of photoshop's newest photo adjustments, the "HDR" effect. This adjustment effect can be used on a single image rather than just combining 3 different images into one. By using this HDR effect again I was able to give this older elementary school a more better and stunning look!

About a couple of a days ago, a friend of mine Gabriel Cece who is a local tattoo artist and the owner of Studio Evolve Tattoo shop submit one of my exterior building shots in a well know tattoo magazine. I was very excite to see of my photos being put to good use. Gabriel also showed me another magazine were another one of my photos that I did from around the same time of doing the property shoot had also appeared another magazine.

During this past weekend, I was giving yet another opportunity by my manager from Lifetouch, Kim Bagarella to create a panoramic view of another middle school in the VB area. The newest school shown above is Virginia Beach Middle School. There are 2 photographs shot from 2 different view points. Once a deiscion made, one of these panos will be printed in full size and be presented to the Principal of VB Middle as a gift from Lifetouch. This was another fun project to work on because the architecture of this school is brand new. This school went through an extensive reconstruction overhaul from being a mere 1 level structure school to a magnificient 3 story tall school.

Photoshop CS5: Using the "Content Aware Fill" options

Last night I download the trial version for the new CS5 Photoshop Extend program for Mac, with plans on buying the program. WOW! insane program. The 2 newest features that this program had is the Content-Aware Fill and Spot Healing Content Aware. Content-Aware Healing option that lets Photoshop examine the actual contents of your image as it tries to figure out the best way to remove or repair the damaged or unwanted area you've clicked on.

Content-Aware Fill, on the other hand, lets us repair or replace larger, more complex areas, and even multiple areas at once, simply by drawing selections around them and letting Photoshop do the rest!

The Spot Healing Brush is still best suited for smaller areas that we can easily click on or paint over.

Fun Project for Work

Earlier this week, I was giving an opportunity by one of managers from Lifetouch, Kim Bagarella to create a panoramic view of Corporate Landing Middle School, in Virginia Beach. This photo will be printed in full size and be presented to the Principal of CLMS as a gift from Lifetouch. This was a fun and awesome project to work on. This project really meant a lot to me especially being that this particular middle school, is the school that I went to when I was younger. I love creating beautiful panos.

New Lightroom3- So Fun

...so judging from the last post I didnt purchase the late model Canon 5D, in fact I choose to purchase the newer version of Lightroom. Here just a few photos that I experiment with today. Do varies things like burning and dodging, desatuarting colors, fading, vignetting, and just plan old basic retouching. I love this program and I recommend to other people. I found out with this version when export your images with a watermark just like you can do with Lightroom 2. But the difference is you can change the font, style, size, opacity, and placement of the watermark!

WOW!!! It has been awhile since I have posted anything on my blog. However, as busy as I am with Lifetouch during the week, on the weekends I still find time to do my own photo thing.

Here are some images that I create about 2 weekends ago, photographing a wedding at The Founders Inn in Virginia Beach, Va. I found an old photo that I did in the studio last year. Probably one the best girls that ever modeled for me. I won't mention her name but you know who you are. The one thing that I find to be very eye catching, is the extreme shadow that falls down the middle of her head and shoulders. While looking through the shadows you see the tribal earring hanging her ear. Another thing interests me about this photos is her look of wonder and innocents on her face. Enjoy!

On the Job with Lifetouch Studios

This past week I was photographing over at Kempsville Middle School in Virginia Beach. This was one of my first schools were I start to photograph on my own without a trainer. It was very exciting and I did very well. I kept up at a steady pace. At Lifetouch we all work and photograph as a team. Together as a team we photographed over 1200 students. During our hourly sessions we had either finished on time or early enough to allow us to have a 10-15min break.

Not only do I photograph students for the year book, but I also do sports coverage work and other sports event photography such as team and individual player pictures. It's an awesome job. I love being a photographer and I wouldn't want to do anything else.

The Happenings of my Saturday

After a hard day of shooting oceanfront properties and interiors of beach houses for Sandbridge Reality. I went down to Knotts Island to try out a new restaurant.

Now before I tell you the name of this "awesome place," I don't care where you are from but to me, the best place to get thee best shrimp is in North Carolina!!! Being a native from Virginia Beach, I'm not afraid to admit that the best coconut shrimp and key lime pie is in Knotts Island at place called Bay Villia Marina. The restaurant- Bay Villia is located at 112 Bayvilla in Knotts Island near the boat ramp.

Please check this place out, GREAT SHRIMP, AWESOME KEY LIME PIE, FRIENDLY SERVICE!!!!

Training with Lifetouch

"Day 3" training with Lifetouch Portrait Studio.

So far I have been having a lot of fun training for my new and 1st full time Photography job. There setup is pretty easy and simple to understand and use. Each piece of equipment except for the light stands is all custom made for LifeTouch. Even the matt that placed underneath back drop and light stands is custom made. It is diagrammed to show you were each piece of equipment goes. The camera that we use is a modified Nikon D400 which is tether to a laptop which can be convert to a touch screen. Pretty cool gadgets!

The training sessions are all hands-on. We spilt into groups and begin to setup our equipment. We mainly practice photographing each other and sometimes with younger elementary school children, then we have a quick a review and critique by our instructor, and after that we break everything down and start all over again.

This past Saturday I attended a photography workshop with Glen McClure up in Fredericksburg, VA. I assisted Glen all day at the Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont setting up soft boxes for portrait demonstrations, taking pictures of people interacting with Glen in class, and enjoying the beautiful scenery that Fredericksburg had to offer. It was a fun experience and at the same time I picked up few new ideas to think about when I am photographing people next time.

Last weekend I went to Minneapolis, MN for the first time ever and it was pretty cool city. Personally, what made this trip even cooler for myself, was I got to use my Pocket Wizards for the first time ever during my shoot. I recently got a set of pocket wizards from my lovely and awesome girlfriend, Kristina, as a gift for our 1 year anniversary. Thanks babe!

I had a lot fun walking through downtown, I saw a lot of interesting features that Minneapolis had to offer. It reminded me of a lot like New York city with its tower sky scrappers, execpt without the B&H Store. Haha. I never thought that working with Nationals Inc, that my 2nd travel trip would literally take me across the country to Minnesota. My next stop will be in Oklahoma, so stay tuned!!!!

Last week I received a call from a PR person that worked for Nationals Inc, a Pageant Organization. The PR person asked if I could fill in for a photographer and of course I said yes. I also asked how did she get my number, she then replied that another photographer that I have been trying to contact sent her my resume and recommended that I fill in for the photographer who was not able to make it in. It was a fun and interesting experience. They were impressed with my photography skills and my ability to adapt in any situation that i wasn't familiar with and they asked me if I was interest in working with them again on JULY 10th. And I said yes!!!

As a photographer for Nationals Inc, I would work in their photography services department and I would photograph and cover all aspect of the beauty pageant world from the girls starting interviews to the final crowning of the pageant queen. National Inc. pays for the traveling across the country whether it be driving or flying, pays for any hotel fees, and pays a set photographer's.

This is a photography job that I can get use too.

Mixing Camera Flash & Ambient Light

Today I worked with Mr.Eric shooting some relaxing summer house properties. I have worked with Eric before during my last year at VI doing on location stuff and some commercial projects. Like Glen, he has taken me under his wing, also teaching me some new techniques. Today I had blast working with him on mixing the flash (Canon 580 FLASH) on my camera with ambient light.

For the last month, I have been very privileged to assist Glen McClure while shooting his latest self project; Endangered Species: Watermen of the Chesapeake. The day before I left to go to this final shoot with him and his wife Marshall, he had asked me if I would be able to bring my camera along to document him while he worked on this project. Naturally I said yes. Glen mention to me that there could be a possibility that some of my photos could be good enough to be used in his new book, which would be based off this Watermen project.

Yesterday, was my first day working with well known Norfolk photographer Glen McClure. I have known Glen for almost year and so far he has been the first photographer that has taken me under his wing since I graduated from college and has hired me as his assistant. For my first paid gig I woke up at 6 am, got dressed and hopped into my truck, drove to his house in Norfolk, and from there drove 3 1/2 hours to "Shady Side, Maryland" to assist him with his new self project entitled An Endangered Species: Watermen of the Chesapeake Bay portrait project. While working with Glen, I was in charge of doing many things such as: loading and off loading his equipment, assembling his lighting equipment and positioning them on his subjects, and uploading his raw digital images while providing him with fresh memory cards to be formatted and ready to go!

Earlier today, was my 2nd day of work. I drove to downtown Norfolk to meet him at his studio and from there I helped him setup a 15ft wide back drop for Saturday's photo shoot for the Hospital of the King's Daughters. I will also be assisting with that as well. I am very excited to go back to work with him on Saturday. Also I am looking forward to many more assistant jobs with him in the future coming up. I will keep you all posted on what they are!!!!

Ras Alan and the Lions have performed at numerous family-friendly festivals throughout the US and Jamaica, and continues to be heard on radio and internet stations worldwide. Ras Alan’s blend of traditional mountain music, original lyrics, and reggae beat is a unique combination. His songs are fun, emotional, and socially responsible. Influenced by bluegrass, old time, Southern gospel, jazz, African drumming, and a respectful portion of Rastafari spirituality, Ras Alan’s music is full of life, and the reggae rhythm is extremely danceable.

For the past couple of years, I have been photographing you and your band around the Bristol, Virginia and Tennessee area while studying photography at Virginia Intermont College. This is one the best Reggae band in the Appalachian area. Coming from Virginia Beach and living around the beach it’s hard to find good live reggae music in the mountains, listening to your vibes made me feel like I was back home on the beach. For my final project in Advanced Lighting, I choose to do product shots for Guitar Player and other musical instrument magazines. The scenario of this final project was that we were allowed to choose from any type of magazine whether it be from Playboy to Better Homes and Gardens, and to assumed that we as a photographer have been hired to shoot for those magazines. Requirements for the project are to provide 8 sold images and make prints that you would see from those magazines, and as optional create actually magazine layouts. It is 12am and I am printing the final image for my senior show entitled "Almost Maine: A Photographic Documentary," and at the same time working on the images for my sophomore project for Lighting 2. I have devoted 3 months out my senior year to complete this photo documentary. Earlier today I was informed by a friend of mine that I am the only person that he knows on campus that is the most dedicated to my passion, photography! I took this has a heavy compliment and used this to push myself to work even more harder to finish this senior show project and for my current photo project in Lighting 2. I feel that is very true to were I eat, sleep, and breath photography. If you have never met me and you walk up to start a conversation with me, I guarantee that within the first 5mins of that conversation I would compare the topic with something to do with photography. FIRST BLOG POST!!!!!

After 3 months in the making my new and much cleanly built website is final finish. About a month ago I purchased a flash based web template created by Bludomain.com and for the last month I have extensively been working day and night to accomplish my goal before I graduate college in May. That goal was to create an improved website so that I would be ready to show to other photographers as well as to perspective clients.

I highly recommend to all photographers who are not as web savvy as myself to look into Bludomain.com for creating a clean and sophisticate website. Creating a website through Bludomain is as simple as creating a facebook profile.
